In this video Dr. Morse interviews children who have had near death experiences. It is surprising to me that their descriptions of what happened to them when they felt they were flying away from their body matches the descriptions given by adults and other children. It seems to me that everyone that has went through these experiences have had similar sights.

The topic that I chose and that intrigues me the most is life after death. This has always fascinated me since I was little kid. There are so many questions that are unanswered about what happens when a person passes away. Dr. Melvin Morse from Seattle studied cases on young children who came close to death and they all reported having an out of body experience. The children stated that they flew away from their body. Accurate descriptions of their resuscitation were then given by the children to Dr. Morse. This shows that people who pass away might be stepping out into another realm. Many different cultures throughout the world today believe in an afterlife. However, their views on the afterlife differ from one another. For example, the ancient Egyptians believed that the only way a human being can go on into the afterlife is after the process of mummification takes place. Other cultures believe in reincarnation and that we may turn into animals, vegetables, or even minerals after we pass away. In these Eastern religions, karma plays a big role in reincarnation. Descartes believed that “the mind or the self was a necessarily existing, changeless thing.” “We can infer from this that the mind or the self will not be affected by bodily changes, including death. Therefore, such a mind would survive death.” One phenomenon that could possibly describe life after death would be ghosts. Ghosts are said to be “the apparition of a dead person.” Are ghosts an image of what happens to us after we pass away?

Chapter 4 Do we survive death?

I have pondered the thought of what actually does happen to a person after they physically pass away. MacDougall researched the theory of the human soul weighing 21 grams, in which after a person’s death the actual body weight is lighter. Life after death is a prevalent subject in modern rap such as 50 Cent states “Death gotta be easy cuz life is hard”. Do a person’s actions and decisions in everyday life affect them in the after life? If this were a proven fact would people behave differently? These are questions that are interesting to me to find out what theories seem to explain these unanswered questions best.

Chapter 13 The meaning of life?

At this time in my life I am beginning to realize that in order to achieve certain goals I will have to invest in achieving them. The meaning of life is important to your happiness in the long term. Some specific goals in order to achieve a certain level of happiness are a stable happy family, which entails being a strong provider for my future wife and children. In order to understand the meaning of life I believe we should have a purpose in life with goals to measure your success.

What is philosophy?

I think that philosophy is how you choose to live your life. Only you can choose and create your destiny and your actions can greatly interfere with other people.
